The Secret to College Success for Students Who Are Blind

Categories: Blind or Visually Impaired

College Success Program Mentors In partnership with the Lavelle Fund for the Blind, Learning Ally is piloting The College Success Program, a research-based program designed specifically for college students who are blind or visually impaired. The program offers an online curriculum that includes articles, interviews, podcasts, quizzes and more to help students on the college journey. Students can also receive one-on-one guidance from a group of mentors who are all successful college graduates who are blind or visually impaired. We were honored when the American Foundation for the Blind shared their opinions of the program, saying:
"Learning Ally has identified a kind of secret ingredient in pulling together the overall college experience for students who are blind and visually impaired. It takes more than reading comprehension or a knack for testing well to succeed in college. Blindness skills are essential as are an understanding of technology, a flair for self-advocacy, and the willingness to step outside one's comfort zone."
