D.E.A.R. stands for Drop Everything and Read. It’s a designated time that students can drop everything they are doing and read what they want!
On April 12, the birthday of beloved Newbery Medal-winning author Beverly Cleary, the nation celebrates "Drop Everything and Read" Day.
The concept of "Drop Everything and Read" is referenced in the second chapter of Ramona Quimby, Age 8 (MM357), and Ramona is the campaign spokesperson.
Free D.E.A.R. materials are available from HarperCollins Children's Books. You can also find additional materials at Reading Rockets.
Use the Learning Ally Great Starts human-read audiobooks to encourage your students to participate in your D.E.A.R. day, whether you celebrate on April 12th or several times over the next several months. You can make any day your D.E.A.R. day!
